Social media platforms have become a special part of our lives. We share tweets, posts and images to be the center of attraction. In the urge of being in limelight, we sometimes forgot to think before the tweet. The same happened with Noami H, an intern at NASA.

Noami H is an American woman who lost her internship at NASA for exchanging tweets using abusive words.

A delete thread started with Noami H sharing the note of joining NASA as an intern.

“EVERYONE SHUT THE F*** UP

I GOT ACCEPTED FOR A NASA INTERNSHIP”

She got a reply from Homer Hikam former NASA engineer, and member of the National Space Council: “Language.”

Noami reverted to Hikam’s tweet saying, “Suck my dick and balls I’m working for NASA”

Next revert from Hikam was “And I am on the National Space Council that oversees NASA.”

Her online friends added fuel to the fire by replying to Hikam with insulting tweets and included the hashtag “NASA”, which brought this conversation into limelight getting the attention of space agency. And those insulting tweets were enough to risk Noami;s career.

Hikam was telling the truth. He is nearly among the two dozen people named to Vice president Mike Pence’s newly created National Space Council’s Users Advisory Group.

Twitter has been flooded with mixed comments from last couple of days on who is in the wrong and if Noami should have lost her internship or not. The tweets have been deleted but many users still share screen shorts of the same.

Later, a Tweet from Hikam confirmed that Noami has not been fired and he blamed Nomai’s friends for spreading the posts even after he deleted them for the fear of putting intern into any trouble. He tweeted on his blog “Thoughts from Homer Hikam At Skyrdige” and was clear that those were not Noami’s tweet.

“I learned she had lost her offer for an internship with NASA. This I had nothing to do with nor could I since I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever. As it turned out, it was due to the NASA hashtag her friends used that called the agency’s attention to it long after my comments were gone,” Hikam wrote in a blog post-Tuesday.

He also mentioned that he is quite sure of Noami deserving a position in the aerospace industry and he is doing all he can to secure her one that will be better than she lost. He also had talked to the folks that the tweet conversation has nothing to do with Noami’s internship and assured that there will not be any black mark on her record. He is now helping Noami getting a better position in the aerospace industry.
