Recognized as Bollywood’s “Angry Young Man’’, Amitabh Bachchan has completed his 5 decades in the industry. Abhishek Bachchan & various other celebrities took their social media to remind everyone about how much Big B has contributed to Indian Cinema in the last 5 decades. The wishes were filled with heartfelt messages on how much the superstar of Bollywood has taught them.

Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942, to eminent poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan & Teji Bachchan. He began his Bollywood career in 1969 with a movie ‘Saat Hindustani’. In 1973, his movie ‘Zanjeer” was released and this movie earned him the title of “Angry Young Man”.

Ironically, All India Radio rejected Amitabh Bachchan for his extremely deep & intense voice, which has now become his signature. Amitabh Bachchan went onto appear in hit movies like “Anand”, &  “Namak Haram”. Amitabh came into the scene of Bollywood when there was a great deal of disaffection in the country. With his major popular hits like Deewar, Don, Natwarlal, Suhaag, The Great Gambler, Silsila, Shakti, Sholay, etc.

Even though the entire Bollywood saw Amitabh as an angry young man, the actor has aced his acting skills in every genre. It includes romantic, comic, grey shade, etc. Big B’s journey of 5 decades wasn’t always a smooth ride. He had to face many rejections at the beginning of his career and with some movies that didn’t work at the box office. When superstar tried his hand at film entrepreneurship, he went bankrupt, only to bounce back and claim supremacy as a super brand and respectability as an icon.

Amitabh Bachchan is not only an actor that had made into the mainstream cinema but one of the few actors who changed the entire mindset of the cinema.

The powerful writing duo Salim-Javed was on a streak to usher the era of violence and intense drama in Bollywood cinema. Amitabh fits in perfectly in this scene. He won his first National Award for Agneepath & then later for Black, Paa & Piku. In 2019, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan was declared as the recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his contribution to Indian cinema.

He was honored with Padma Vibhushan, which is the country’s second-highest civilian honor in 2015. The megastar has worked in over 190 Indian films during his five-decade career.  Amitabh Bachchan is also rewarded with his statue at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in London

After failing as an entrepreneur, to kick back his career, Big B bought his A-game back but with a twist. It happened on a small screen. He took to host the quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” in 2000. Amitabh soon became a knowledge guru of sorts, which perfectly synced with his advancing age. His family includes wife Jaya Bachchan, son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter Shweta Nanda, daughter in law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan & granddaughter Aaraydhya. He is very close to all the members of his family.

On completing his 50 years in Bollywood, Amitabh received heartfelt messages & tweets from fans & the Bollywood fraternity. Son Abhishek Bachchan took his social media to congratulate his father on completing such a long time in the industry. He posted a throwback picture of Amitabh and wrote “Not just as a son, but as an actor and a fan… We are all blessed to witness the greatness!

There is so much to admire, to learn and even more to appreciate. Several generations of cinema lovers get to say we lived in the times of BACHCHAN!!! Congratulations Pa on completing 50 years in the Film industry. We now await the next 50! Love you. #50yrsofSaatHindustaani #50yrsofBachchan”

To share his sheer happiness, Amitabh took his blog to share his health update. He took up writing a few years ago and calls his readers “Extended Family”. His blogs are very raw & emotional. He shared about how he is surrounded by doctors who are advising the megastar to take some time off work & rest. This is a concern with a fact that Amitabh Bachchan spent a few days at Mumbai hospital around his birthday last. The doctors have updated that he went regular health check-ups and the actor has confirmed the same but asked his Extended family to respect his privacy.

To celebrate Amitabh’s 5 decades in the industry, the show-makers of “Kaun Banega Crorepati” paid tribute to the megastar. Amitabh was over-whelmed with the kind gesture and couldn’t stop thanking everyone. Big B also shared his fond memory of being rejected by producers in his initial days.

But how he never gave up because of what his father told him “Beta agar kisi ghar ke andar ghusna ho, aur darwaza ho band, toh deewar phand kar andar jaana chahiye (Son, if you have to break into a house and the door is closed, you must scale the wall to get in)”. The episode also saw Oscar-winning sound engineer, Resul Pookutty gift Bachchan a book as a token of appreciation for his 50 years. The first page of the book read ‘100 years of Indian Cinema and 50 years of Amitabh Bachchan’.

Currently, Amitabh Bachchan is a busy shooting quiz show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” and will be soon seen in Ayushamann Khurrana starrer “Gulabo Sitaboo” & Ayan Mukerji’s much-awaited movie “Brahmastra”.

We’re happy to have you Big B.
