Popularly known as Masterji, Saroj Khan is one of the most renowned choreographers in the Bollywood industry. She has choreographed about more than 2000 songs for movies in her 40-year of a career in the Indian film industry.
Even though Saroj Khan is innately connected to Madhuri Dixit because of their iconic songs, but there are few more songs that she has choreographed and everyone still remembers them. Saroj Khan even won a National Award for her excellent choreography skills for the song ‘Ye Ishq Haye’ from the movie jab We Mt as well as for ‘Dola Re Dola’ from Devdas.
Before Saroj Khan & Madhuri Dixit were a famous dancer-student duo, Saroj Khan choreographed some iconic songs like Hawa Hawai, Kate Nahi Kat Te, Mere Hathon Mein Nau Nau Chidiya, etc. with late megastar Sridevi.
Saroj Khan recently opened up about her being jobless for a long time in the industry. When she opened up about her situation, Bollywood superstar, Salman Khan reached out to the veteran choreographer and offered her work. She mentioned that both of them came up with a possible collaboration in the future.
According to reports, Salman was pleased with a possible collaboration with the choreographer and assured that there is a project soon on her way. The suitable project for Saroj Khan was Katrina Kaif’s ‘Suraiya’ from Thugs of Hindostan.
It is claimed that Saroj Khan was the first choice of the makers of the movie, but later that project went to Prabhudeva. The reason behind Saroj Khan losing such a massive project was Katrina Kaif. According to the sources, maker of the movie already had very little time for the preparation of the song and Katrina mentioned that if Masterji is choreographing the song, then she’ll need more practice.
The moviemakers opted for Prabhudeva and dropped Saroj Khan from the project. She was very disheartened and expressed her sadness.
It was also heard that Saroj Khan is planning to retire from the industry because of her ill health, but she has rubbed off the rumors and said that she wants to work as long as people offer her songs to choreograph. She recently collaborated with her favorite student Madhuri Dixit for ‘Tabha Ho Gaye’ for Kalank.
Recently it was announced that Saroj Khan is named as the brand ambassador for Cine Dancers Association.
I began my career as a group dancer, and I still have my CDA card. As the association’s brand ambassador, I would want it to become the most significant association of the film industry. I was ten years old when I began dancing in films, and now it’s time to get back to the roots and provide all the facilities which I didn’t understand,” Khan said. “I promise to do good work and guide them in the direction and get the respect the dancers deserve in the film industry.”
Adding to the statement, Masterji also mentioned that the association would give free education to the dancer’s girl children. She teaches classical dance to young boys & girls as of now.
One of Saroj Khan’s favorite students, Madhuri Dixit, took her social media to congratulate her teacher on her birthday. She shared a picture with the veteran choreographer with a caption that read, “Happy birthday to one of my favorite people @sarojkhanofficial Ji. Our journey together has been amazing, and I will always be proud of the legacy you have created. You are my Guru and will always hold an extraordinary place in my heart.”
The veteran choreographer is one of the most renowned and respectable choreographers in the industry. She will always be as graceful as she was. We hope we see her back behind the cameras teaching dance to the actors very soon.
