Nagpur Police on Thursday summoned former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The Nagpur court issued summons to Fadnavis on 4 November. The former chief minister is accused of hiding two criminal cases in the electoral affidavit. Lawyer Satish Uke had filed a petition seeking initiation of criminal action against Fadnavis.
Satish’s petition was dismissed by the lower court. The Bombay High Court also upheld this decision. Subsequently, the Supreme Court on 1 October ordered the Magistrate Court to take action on the petition.
Fadnavis will remain in Mumbai including family
Meanwhile, Fadnavis has started the process of vacating the Chief Minister’s residence located in South Mumbai. He has decided to stay in Mumbai along with his family. Fadnavis’ wife Amrita is a senior executive at Axis Bank. His daughter is also studying in Mumbai. Fadnavis shifted to Mumbai with family after becoming the Chief Minister in 2014.
Fadnavis is an MLA from Nagpur
Cases of fraud and forgery were filed against Fadnavis in 1996 and 1998. Charges were not framed in both cases. Fadnavis is an MLA from Nagpur. He was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on 23 November. On the petition of NCP-Shiv Sena-Congress, Supreme Court ordered to prove majority. Fadnavis resigned 80 hours after taking oath.
