Priyanka Chopra is a Goodwill Ambassador of United Nations Children’s Funds for child rights. For her, the last 15 years, the actress has been serving the UNICEF, and her work was rewarded at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York. In June 2010, the United Nations Children’s Fund revealed the actress’ name as the 2019 award winner. Her mother and mentor, Madhu Chopra, accompanied PC to the ball where she was presented with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award.
The DDD actress took to Instagram to share the news with her fans and thank UNICEF for the honor. She posted a picture and caption, “I am in awe of the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of the people who work for #UNIECEF. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of this journey.”
Priyanka further thanked the UNICEF to let her serve as the Goodwill Ambassador for 15 years. She takes pride in the position she is today and also mentioned that this is a privilege of her life to serving. PC who is also known as a renowned Philanthropist explained that today, Philanthropy goes beyond just the funding projects. She stated that giving back to people and life, in general, is a way of life now. She urged people to be disruptive, show compassion and care, be catalytic in our actions and solutions.
Diane von Furstenberg, a veteran fashion designer, awarded the actress with her Humanitarian award. Priyanka also opened up about her journey with the organization.
‘I had just become an actor, and I was figuring out that I had this platform. I had started associating with causes that I believed were important. I was working with thalassemia children, children’s wards, and suddenly I realized that there was a theme that I was working with a lot of kids. My then manager Natasha Pal told me that there is this organization called UNICEF and maybe I should volunteer.”
She further explained, “I started reading up a lot more, and I started volunteering my time. A couple of years later, I became a national ambassador in India, and then two years ago, I became a global ambassador for UNICEF. The journey has been now 15 years.’
Inspired by his wife, Nick Jonas with who the actress recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary, commented on her picture by saying “So inspired by you every day. Congratulations beautiful”. Nick Jonas posted an image of his wife, PC by stating that she inspires him every day, and he is grateful for that.
Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award is an award named after actor Danny Kaye who was an American actor, dancer, and singer. He became the first goodwill ambassador of UNICEF in 1954, and he was awarded Honorary Oscar for the film about his work with UNICEF. He not only worked with UNICEF but also helped the organization to popularize through various public announcements, interviews, and campaigns. Danny Kaye was awarded Humanitarian Award from the Lions Club in 1974.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas was also awarded at Festival International Du Film De Marrakech in Morocco. The event was at the famous Jemaa el Fna square in Morocco where the actress slayed the red carpet in an ivory saree and strapless blouse like a royalty.
The actress was honored at Festival for her extraordinary two-decade career as an actor and now as a producer. The outfit was a creation of PC’s favorite designer duo- Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.
The Fashion actress who was very happy with her success took her Instagram to share the news of being honored for her work with her fans by posting a picture from the event holding an award. She captioned the photo “To think that my career started nearly 20 years ago is surreal. I am honored and proud to be recognized tonight at the Marrakesh Film Festival. Thank you, truly, to everyone who came out to Jemaa el Fna square.”
