Demonstrations are continuing across the country regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). During the protest in Seelampur area on Tuesday, a situation of confrontation took place between the police and the protesters. The protesters opened fire and threw stones. The police had to use force. However, by the evening the police overcame the situation. Drone cameras are being used to monitor the situation. In the evening, Congress President Sonia Gandhi met the President with a delegation of the opposition. She said that police action on students is excessive. The central government is trying to suppress the voice. The Trinamool and the SP appealed to the President to direct the Center to withdraw the law.
Sources in Delhi Police told that a protest was to be held in Jafrabad in East Delhi at 2 pm. For this, people had gathered at 1.15 pm in the afternoon. They started the march on foot towards Seelampur. Initially the protest was peaceful but suddenly people started to disperse and violence started.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi calls on the President
The police action on Sunday in Jamia has been condemned by Congress President Sonia Gandhi. She met President Ram Nath Kovind with the opposition delegation regarding the matter. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the President against the citizenship law. The Congress President said that during the peaceful demonstration, the police committed the most brutality. The Trinamool and the SP appealed to President Kovind to direct the central government to withdraw the law.
Petition filed in High Court, appeal to release students
The petition was filed in the Delhi High Court. It appealed that the court direct the center to release not only the students and local people who have been detained by the police, but also to provide compensation and medical assistance to those injured in the police action. At the same time, students at Madras University and Indraprastha University in Delhi demonstrated against the citizenship law.
Police arrested 10 people, not a single student
Earlier on Tuesday, police arrested 10 people on charges of spreading a nuisance after violent demonstrations at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University on Monday. Police said that all of them are of criminal background. No students were arrested.
Curfew continues in Assam, citizens are getting regular relief & relaxation
The administration in Assam has imposed curfew to stop the disturbance. However, citizens are being regularly exempted from this. On Tuesday, the curfew was announced to be relaxed from 6 am to 8 pm (14 hours). Meanwhile, the Delhi Police released a video on Tuesday, in which the Joint Commissioner of Police is appealing to the students of Jamia not to do any stone pelting. The video is on 15 December.
Yogi spoke to police officers to prevent nuisance in UP
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held discussions with police officers through video conferencing late at night to prevent disturbances in Uttar Pradesh. Yogi asked to take strict steps to deal with the rioters. Internet services are closed in five districts – Saharanpur, Meerut, Aligarh, Mau and Kasganj – after riot situation erupted in two universities in Uttar Pradesh.
In Mau, miscreants ransacked Dakshinatola police station and set fire to 15 vehicles on Monday night. The police fired tear gas shells to deal with the mob. Students of Shibli College in Azamgarh also jumped into the demonstrations. The situation remains sensitive in Allahabad, Bareilly and Rampur. SP Vineet Jaiswal at Kairana near Shamli in Uttar Pradesh visited the madrasas and asked the students to maintain peace and harmony.
Kerala: 30 Islamic-political parties called off, throwing stones at buses
On Tuesday, 30 Islamic-political parties called a strike from morning to evening to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. During this period incidents of stone pelting on government buses came to light. Apart from this, stones were also pelted in Palakkad, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Kochi.
