  • CM Nitish Kumar inaugurates Bangaraghat bridge through video conferencing
  • The approach road of the bridge was broken in Baikunthpur in Gopalganj last month.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Bangaraghat bridge of Gopalganj on Wednesday through video conferencing. The opening was to take place at 11:30 am. Earlier on Tuesday night, the approach road of the bridge around 12:30 was washed away in the flood waters. About 50 meters of road was broken, which was fixed in a hurry. The repairs were completed about 30 minutes before the opening.

Officials of Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation were present on the spot.  The area where the road is broken is near Satjoda Bazar in Saran.

Many are confused as to how the brigde could be properly repaired within 30 minutes, showing how the inauguration was more important than the repair.

Bridge built in 6 years

On 11 April 2014, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the Mahasetu project at Rajapatti which was to cost Rs 509 crore. With the commissioning of the bridge, the movement of about 8 lakh population of 6 districts will be facilitated. This will reduce the distance from Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran to Muzaffarpur by 55 km, Darbhanga by 65 km and Janakpur by 70 km.

Tejashwi Yadav raised the question

The approach road was broken 29 days after its inauguration in Gopalganj last month. The bridge over the Gandak river in Baikunthpur of Gopalganj was washed away 29 days after the inauguration last month. This bridge was built on Soti, a tributary of Gandak. It was inaugurated on 16 June. Its cost is said to be around 264 crores. The bridge was built by the company Vasistha.

The Bihar government claimed that the seventy ghat bridge over the Gandak river has not been broken. The pressure of water in the Gandak river is more towards Gopalganj. The approach road part of the bridge was cut off due to this.

The roads falling apart is a constant in Bihar, which only gets highlighted during floods. Bihar Government must keep the regular floods in mind while constructing these roads and bridges. The population of Bihar has to face this struggle every year due to the deplorable condition that is created by these regular floods. The deep rooted corruption should be addressed and btter infrastructure should be presented to the citizens.
