In the midst of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Centre’s ordinance on control of administrative services in Delhi, Delhi Congress President Anil Chaudhary took a dig at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, urging him to acknowledge his past praise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chaudhary’s comments came after Kejriwal reached out to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former MP Rahul Gandhi, seeking their support against the Centre’s ordinance.
Speaking to ANI, Anil Chaudhary stated, “The Congress high command will decide whether they will meet Arvind Kejriwal or not. While all opposition parties were united, he kept showering praises on the BJP. Arvind Kejriwal should realize his mistake.”
Kejriwal initiated a nationwide tour on May 23 to garner support from opposition parties against the ordinance introduced by the central government regarding the transfers and postings of bureaucrats in Delhi. He has already met with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav. Furthermore, he is scheduled to meet Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on Saturday, seeking the support of his party Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) against the ordinance.
Kejriwal also announced his inability to attend the NITI Aayog meeting held on Saturday in the national capital.
The controversy emerged following the Union government’s introduction of an ordinance on May 19, which established rules for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) concerning transfers, postings, vigilance, and other incidental matters. The ordinance sought to amend the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, effectively bypassing a Supreme Court judgment in the Centre vs. Delhi case.
