Jharkhand School Forces 80 Girls To Remove Shirts, Probe Initiated

A shocking incident from Jharkhand school has come to light and has stirred public outrage. The incident involved 80 girls from Class 10 who were allegedly forced to remove their shirts as punishment by the school principal. The incident occurred at a private school in Dhanbad during the celebration of “Pen Day,” where students wrote farewell messages on each other’s shirts. Despite their apologies, the principal reportedly ordered the girls to remove their shirts and sent them home wearing only their blazers, leaving both students and parents distressed.

Outrage Over Principal’s Actions

The incident took place on January 10, 2025, in a school in the Jorapokhar police station area. Pen Day, traditionally celebrated as a farewell ritual before board exams, took a humiliating turn when the principal objected to the students’ messages on their shirts. Parents claimed the punishment left the girls embarrassed and emotionally distressed.

Parents raised their concerns with Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Madhvi Mishra, who acknowledged the gravity of the allegations. “Guardians have filed complaints, and we have spoken to some of the affected students. A committee has been formed to investigate the matter,” she stated.

Probe Ordered By Officials

In response to the incident, a probe committee has been established, comprising the sub-divisional magistrate, district education officer, district social welfare officer, and a sub-divisional police officer. DC Madhvi Mishra assured strict action against those responsible based on the findings.

Parents and local leaders have demanded justice for the affected students, emphasizing the psychological toll of the incident. “Our daughters are already stressed about board exams. This humiliation has added to their mental anguish,” a concerned parent expressed.

Demands For Accountability Grow

Jharia MLA Ragini Singh condemned the incident, calling it “shameful and unfortunate.” She joined the parents in demanding the principal’s resignation and legal action against her. Singh stressed the need for safeguarding students’ dignity and mental well-being in educational institutions.

The incident has ignited a broader conversation about the treatment of students in schools and the need for accountability among educational authorities. As the investigation progresses, communities across the region are closely monitoring the case, hoping for justice for the affected students and reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
