Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, keeping the pollution from commercial automobiles in mind proposed certain steps including the scrappage policy which will revive the automobile sector. These steps aim at increasing production levels and capacity utilization at factories. The Scrappage policy is believed to revive the ailing commercial vehicle industry by promoting the replacement of old vehicles by replacing them with new modern ones.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday while replying to a debate in the Rajya Sabha said that there is no recession in the economy. However, she admitted that there is slowdown, due to which the growth rate has come down. Citing the first tenure of UPA-2 (2009-2014) and NDA (2014-2019), inflation rate was low in the first term of the Modi government and the growth rate was moving very fast.
