Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, keeping the pollution from commercial automobiles in mind proposed certain steps including the scrappage policy which will revive the automobile sector. These steps aim at increasing production levels and capacity utilization at factories. The Scrappage policy is believed to revive the ailing commercial vehicle industry by promoting the replacement of old vehicles by replacing them with new modern ones.

2020 is believed to bring a new hope banking on a host of new and upgraded models ready to get launched. The companies are expecting to come out of the economic crisis and see the past situation coming back. The slump affected every segment from two-wheelers to cars and heavy-duty trucks and is expected to close down with a decline of 13-17% this year as compared to last year.

On 20th December, the maker of utility vehicles and tractors, Mahindra & Mahindra announced new appointments across its corporate office and automotive and farm businesses with effect from 1 April 2020.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday while replying to a debate in the Rajya Sabha said that there is no recession in the economy. However, she admitted that there is slowdown, due to which the growth rate has come down. Citing the first tenure of UPA-2 (2009-2014) and NDA (2014-2019), inflation rate was low in the first term of the Modi government and the growth rate was moving very fast.
