Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday while replying to a debate in the Rajya Sabha said that there is no recession in the economy. However, she admitted that there is slowdown, due to which the growth rate has come down. Citing the first tenure of UPA-2 (2009-2014) and NDA (2014-2019), inflation rate was low in the first term of the Modi government and the growth rate was moving very fast.

Can we hope for a better future?

Gujarat has become a stronghold of fake notes. In 2017, 32% of the nationwide seized fake currency was captured from Gujarat alone, worth over Rs 9 crore. The capital of the country, Delhi is second in this case. More than 50% of fake currency in the country have been seized from these two states. This disclosure is made for the first time after demonetisation in a report involving fake notes. A few days ago, the police raided a construction temple and caught the note printing gang.

The Modi government after trying all juggles has decided an initiate a privatization program. Under this program, the government will sell its entire stake in the second-largest state refiner- Bharat Petroleum Corp and the largest shipping company, Shipping Corp. of India Ltd. It has also declared to sell control on 30.8% shareholding in Container Corp which has almost monopoly on railway freight. Along with them, Air India will also be put on sale and the government would pay for the airline’s hefty debt to make a sale attractive. 

JNU recently announced a fee hike which would increase rent for a single-occupancy room to Rs 600 per month (partially rolled back to Rs 200) from Rs 20, while double-occupancy was to rise to Rs 300 (rolled back to Rs 100) from Rs 10.

India has changed a lot as a country recently. Indians are now more active, more vocal, demanding for their rights, going on strikes and doing everything possible to live with contentment. While we are here, fighting for ‘acche din’, seems like we’ve lost so much.

Tik Tok became a sensation, the moment it was launched. It achieved a milestone in gaining millions of users in a short span. Surprisingly, 119 million users out of the total 0.5 billion are from India.  The USA. Turkey, Pakistan, Mexico, Brazil, Saudi Arabia are some of the other countries that use Tik Tok the most after India.
