Earlier on Tuesday evening, students shouted slogans against the administration and protested by burning a copy of the bill. The students took out a torch procession. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been declared anti-Muslim. During this time the police also had to use force. Police have registered a case against 500 students, including 20 nominated, for violating Section 144.

The bandh was announced by student organizations and left parties in the North East states in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill passed in the Lok Sabha. Similarly, markets and roads in Arunachal were closed due to the bandh. Internet was banned for 48 hours in view of the protests in Tripura.

During the discussion on this bill, 48 members spoke in either in favor or opposition to this bill. After this, at around 10 pm, Home Minister Amit Shah started answering all the questions. He gave his speech for over an hour. Home Minister Amit Shah said that today is the day to end the torture of millions of refugees who are living the life of hell.

India has rejected the US statement on the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB). Foreign Ministry spokesman Ravish Kumar said on Tuesday that the US International Center for Religious Freedom (USCIRF) does not need to interfere in our affairs. The Citizenship Bill (CAB) and NRC do not snatch Indian citizenship from anyone on the basis of religion. The USCIRF described the citizenship bill as biased.
