In the wake of anti-CAA protests spread across the country, the women have assumed the forefront in a rather unprecedented manner. The occupation and holding of the ground by women of Shaheen Bagh has been an inspiration for women across the country to leave their houses and be the loudest voice of resistance, the ruling party needs today. The narrow streets of Shaheen Bagh are filled with women raising their voices against a religion based discrimination attempt of the central government through the passing of the CAA and the decision to have a pan India NRC. It has been more than a month since these women have been teaching the rest of the country the true meaning of a peaceful protest. Their numbers and will are steel-strong, that they remain undisturbed by the local police.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Friday said the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act was against the secular fabric of the country and claimed that events unfolding now were similar to the ones witnessed in Germany in 1930s when Adolf Hitler was at the helm.

Police were ready in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi in view of the possibility of violence. 10–10 volunteers were stationed outside each mosque.

Many BJP leaders admitted that there was an error in gauging the mood of the people on the Citizenship Amendment Act. Party leaders said the protest was not expected. After protests across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah had to publicly state that it was a law brought to grant citizenship, not to take citizenship of anyone.

I am a citizen of India and I have the right to speak against what I feel is wrong. There are thousands of students, men, women and senior citizens who have decided to take a stand against the CAB and NRC. Just because the celebrities are influential people and have a face value, doesn’t mean that they have no emotions. They are equally part of the constitution just like you and me. They have the rights just like we have and no one is an exception.

There were fierce protests in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Friday against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Violence erupted during demonstrations in 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh. During the firing in Firozabad and Meerut, 2 people died due to firing. 8 people were injured in Kanpur and 4 in Bijnor. The day-long protest in the Jama Masjid area of ​​Delhi was peaceful.
