Recently there were news of policemen being beaten by some lawyers at Tis Hazari & Saket courts in Delhi and when Swarnim Times talked to some people from common public to know their opinion on this, the opinions were shocking but as expected.
Almost everyone was happy that policemen were beaten by the lawyers openly but the big question arise is why? Police department since ages is suppose to be present to protect common citizens and control criminals and crime, this is what they are being paid for and this is what a common man pay their taxes which in turn goes as salary to people of such law enforcement agencies. We pay our taxes for safety and security in our own country. But does this really happen in India?
In reality almost every policemen in India is being hated by the common man, since ages we as a common man had been hearing news and also watching what police is doing in the name of law and order and how are they treating the common man. The khakhi wardi they wear is not to protect the common man but to harass, torture and abuse the common man, many even call them wardi wala gunda (Goons in dresscode). The common things which we had been observing since decades are:
1. Custodial death and murders
2. Harassment on roads
3. Illegal detention & confinement
4. Misbehaving in the police station
5. Use of force on common public
6. Taking bribes from anyone and everyone and on every situation
7. Not taking action on public complaints without being paid or high-fi Jack
8. Lockup torture
9. Fake encounter
10. Taking protection money from illegal shops
11. Taking protection money from illegal liquor sellers, drug peddlers, prostitution rackets owners, arms dealers and suppliers, smugglers, criminals.
12. Letting go the culprit after being bribed and harassing the victims.
13. Misbehaving with common public
14. Even for common task which is the part of the duty of policemen like background verification for maids and servant, passport verification, the policeman ask for money and if you do not pay them, you are deliberately put into troubles.
15. Letting anyone break the law after bring paid bribe of 100-200-500 INR especially in case of traffic police.
Just visit the police station once about any complaint for loss of mobile or harassment calls or even some threat calls and they will surely make you feel like culprit which anyone can observe themself. People don’t feel safe while going to police station, they are scared to visit police station.
People in our country do not respect and love police men, they hate and are scared from them.
People feel happy when they hear the news of death of police men where as entire nation is upset on the death of our soldiers on borders and guess what? No one else but police department itself is responsible for such bad situation and reputation of them among common public.
In the Delhi police and lawyer matter a petition has been filed by the victim constable’s wife. It has been demanded that if a policeman dies while on duty, he should be awarded, One family member gets a job. Also, the family should be paid the entire salary of the deceased.
But no one talks about the people who are harassed, tortured, abused and brutally beaten by Delhi police almost every day.
This attack on Delhi police has come, may be once in decades and entire department is on roads showing their protest but what about the attacks that Delhi police do every single day on common man.
What about those who gets killed?
Many policemen have claimed that they have not worn this khaki to be beaten up, but what about those who gets beaten up almost everyday in lockups, policemen claim that they have their family to take care, have they ever thought about the families of the victims of police torture, custodial deaths, tortures?
Police department has to do something to regain people love and trust and this lost reputation of them among common public so that they are also respected in the same way as we respect our soldiers fighting to save us on our borders.
Talking about this incident, the entire matter erupt when some policemen had a fight with lawyers in tis hazari court and opened fired on the lawyers as per the media report. Big question- Who gave the permission and with what right a policemen opened fired and shot the lawyer? Are policemen allowed to do the same?
Later the lawyers retaliated the action during the protest at saket and tis-hazari court and as a result the matter become a national issue.
Many organization came in support on each side of the party, some lawyers association came in support of the lawyers and many police association came in support of police department.
But the question still remains the same, can a policemen shoot a lawyer over such petty issue?
If a policemen can shoot the lawyer on such small matters, you can easily predict their actions on common man.
This is totally a misuse of powers and abuse of authority as well as dis-respect towards their job and responsibility.
Interesting Fact About Delhi Police: As per some internet reports and social media memes, Delhi Police has been ranked as one of the most corrupt police department in the entire country after Uttar Pradesh Police.
