On Thursday, Left parties and Muslim organizations called a shutdown in other states of the country including Karnataka, Bihar to protest against the citizenship law. During this time, CPI-M workers blocked railway tracks in many cities including Patna, Darbhanga in Bihar. On the other hand, despite the section 144 imposed in Delhi, many protesters were detained protesting against the law. DMRC has closed 7 metro stations of the capital as a precautionary measure. Section 144 will remain in force in Karnataka for three days (till 21 December night). Police took historian Ramchandra Guha into custody during a demonstration in Bengaluru.

Delhi: Section 144 imposed around Lal Qila. Despite this, a large number of protesters gathered here. Police detained many people. DMRC closed Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan Marg, Udyog Bhawan, ITO, Pragati Maidan, Khan Market and Central Secretariat Metro stations in view of the protest. The CPI (M) protesters were taken from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar. The Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was jammed due to the barricading of the police. Police carried out a flag march in sensitive areas after violent demonstrations in Jamia and Seelampur.
Bihar: Protests against citizenship law took place in several cities of the state. CPI (M) workers stopped trains and blocked highways in Patna, Darbhanga and Khagaria. In view of the bandh, security at all the stations of Bihar including Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal is check-in. All schools in Patna were closed. This bandh has been supported by Congress, RLSP and other parties.
Karnataka: Left and Muslim organizations demonstrated in Kalburgi with black flags. Police detained 20 people. Police detained historian Ramachandra Guha during a protest in Bengaluru. Police is on high alert due to the bandh in the state. Section 144 will remain in force for the next three days (till 21 December night) in Bengaluru, Kalburgi, Dakshina Kannada and its adjoining districts. Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said – Congress is behind this protest and bandh. Their leaders are supporting the protest. The responsibility of Muslims is also on me. I appeal to all people to maintain peace.
Maharashtra: There will be a protest from 4 at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan. It may have the involvement of actress Swara Bhaskar, actor Farhan Akhtar. Apart from this, a shutdown has been called in Malegaon, Nashik, Jalgaon and Manmand and Amravati. Earlier, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held discussions with representatives of the Muslim community through video conferencing. He appealed to maintain law and order during the protest against citizenship law and NRC.
Uttar Pradesh: Section 144 has been implemented in all districts in view of security. As a precaution 3 thousand people are banned. Police has arrested 65 people. In Lucknow, a metro station near the Vidhan Sabha has been closed.
