The government led by Narendra Modi is known to give a shock to its people sometimes by nullifying article 370, sometimes it is about ‘Teen Talaak’, but few recent shocks have put the government in shock itself.
There have been strikes and protests everywhere in various parts of India. Reasons are two decisions that have not accepted by the citizens of India- The Amendment of CAA and the fee hike drama in universities in the country.
Amendment of CAA
Amendment of the Citizenship Amendment Act is not less than a severe earthquake in India, which shook the walls of caste, religion, culture, and the most nationality. Although the bill has been passed in both the houses of the parliament and has got consent from the President also, but people of the country are not ready to accept it.
Violent protests by the people
People from various states, including university students, have poured on streets to protest against the bill. There has been violence everywhere, including arson, the buses, tyres, and cars, throwing stones on police and blocking the roads. The government to stop the protest has been taking the support of tear gas, lathi charge, curfews and even firing. Around 56 students are said to be injured, and many were detained in Delhi.
Somewhere it is about the security of Muslims in India, somewhere the bill is considered as a threat to culture, language, and scarce resources.
Although the government is giving assurance to the states to provide proper safeguards, this has only given rise to riots and nothing more.
Fee Hike drama
The fee hike drama in India is celebrating its a month anniversary. Although the fee hike has also affected the primary and secondary schools earlier, the recent protest by Indian youths has highlighted the issue.
It started with fee hike in Jamia Millia Islamia University in November this year that announced a fee hike which would increase rent for a single-occupancy room to Rs 600 per month (partially rolled back to Rs 200) from Rs 20, while double-occupancy was to rise to Rs 300 (rolled back to Rs 100) from Rs 10.
After the Jawahar Lal Nehru university got highlighted after its students poured on streets to protest against the fee hike, many students of other universities joined them in their protest.
In Kolkata, 6 students Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) and 4 students from another premier film institute Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) are on indefinite hunger strike demanding the fee rollback on fee hike along with protest for 10 percent yearly fee hike and also the “exorbitant” entrance exam charge.
Not only this IIT protesting against a proposed 900 percent hike in fees for MTech courses. The fee hike, among other decisions, was taken by the Council of IITs in a meeting chaired by Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.
Protests by students
The students came on streets protesting against the fee hike. There have been stone-pelting, breaking of barricades, vandalizing of statues, Slogan shoutings, hunger strikes, but seems no one cares. Our short-tempered lawmakers poured their frustration on protesting youth with lathi charge and injured many.
The protest against ‘fee hike’ across the country has become a social media sensation. The mixed reactions from celebrities and people, globally witness their gaining popularity. Social media is filled with comments like shut down the university, some said the people studying here are over-aged and much more.
More than 100 former students of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) have written to the Information, and Broadcasting Ministry criticizing the 100 percent fee hike within 10 years and demanded a rollback.
Although the universities have offered partial rollbacks, students have not accepted that. To show the extremity of outrage, the students have decided to boycott their semester-end exams.
Conclusion
Our youth to protest against this fee hike drama and amended CAA, got united and showed the government that they are leading the fearless future leaders of India.
The outrage in Indians does not seem to calm down. The insecurity feeling of becoming inaccessible to education and nationality is making people fanatic. This anger and insecurity need to put an end else will drown the dreams of the Modi government to form the government third time.
