During the groundbreaking ceremony, KCR emphasized the vital role of political parties in providing effective leadership for governing the state. The Bharat Bhavan project aims to facilitate research, training, and development opportunities for BRS leaders in Telangana, covering various aspects such as political, social, economic, cultural, and ideological domains. KCR expressed the need to cultivate a robust leadership that aligns with the aspirations of the nation’s citizens.

The Bharat Bhavan complex will function as a comprehensive training facility for party workers, offering access to information from all corners of the country. It will feature spacious meeting halls, a state-of-the-art digital library, multilingual newspapers, news collation services, and provide essential information to party leaders.

The facility will also serve as a platform for gathering state-wise and sector-wise data. The establishment of classrooms and conference halls will facilitate training programs for party workers from across the nation. The complex will also provide accommodation for trainees, with experienced professionals and subject matter experts being appointed to conduct training and research programs.

The event saw the presence of several senior BRS leaders, including Secretary General K Keshava Rao, Ministers P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Mohd Mahmood Ali, and Ch Malla Reddy, Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageswara Rao, as well as numerous Members of Parliament and Members of Legislative Assembly.

Regarding the relocation of the party’s central office, a senior BRS leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, hinted that once the new building is completed in a year or two, the party headquarters might be shifted to the Bharat Bhavan complex. If this happens, it would become the largest office among political parties in the country. The BRS currently operates from Telangana Bhavan in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, as its party headquarters, along with district-level buildings across all 33 districts. It also has national and state offices in Delhi and other states.

However, there have been criticisms and controversies surrounding the land allocation for the Bharat Bhavan project. Last month, the state cabinet, led by KCR, decided to allot 11 acres of land to the BRS at Kokapet for a cost of approximately ₹37.53 crore (around ₹3.5 crore per acre). The decision drew opposition from political rivals. Pradesh Congress Committee President A Revanth Reddy alleged that the land was undervalued, as the market rate in Kokapet is around ₹50-60 crore per acre.

He argued that similar government lands auctioned by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) in Kokapet last year fetched ₹60 crore per acre. The land allotted to the BRS is estimated to be worth around ₹660 crore, according to Reddy. Similarly, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Bandi Sanjay criticized the state government for granting prime land to the BRS at an undervalued price, calling it an abuse of power. Sanjay also questioned the need for such a massive building when the party already possesses

Despite these controversies, the construction of the Bharat Bhavan complex signifies the BRS’s commitment to empowering its party workers through enhanced training and research facilities. The establishment aims to contribute to the growth and development of effective leadership within the party, ultimately strengthening the democratic foundations of the nation.
