Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jessia dropped a bomb on the audience when the couple announced their separation last year. The couple decided to end their marriage after two decades. Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jessia were one of the finest & hottest celebrity couples in the industry. So when they announced their separation it came as a shock for many people including their friends in the industry.
The actual reason for the two deciding to split hasn’t been clear till now but if rumors are to true then, it’s because of the actor’s closeness with Hrithik’s now ex-wife Sussane Khan & Mehr’s insecurity.
It all started with when Arjun Rampal was cast by very good friend Shah Rukh Khan for Ra.One. According to sources, Arjun desired to be a part of the movie and sent proposals to Shah Rukh Khan personally. On the other hand, Mehr asked for higher remuneration for her husband from King Khan. Shah Rukh Khan didn’t admire this quality of Mehr and vowed never to work with Arjun ever again. Arjun Rampal was the part of Ra. One but since then the two actors haven’t worked together.
Adding more fuel to fire was when Arjun increased his fee just a day before the shoot of Karan Johar directed & produced “We are a family”. Karan Johar also vowed never to work with the actor again. When everything felt like falling apart for Rampal, he found solace in Sussanne Khan then was still married to Hrithik Roshan. The rumors started to spread about the two getting real close and spending too much time together. These rumors got Mehr and she started to feel insecure of long-time friend Sussanne Khan. According to sources, once at Fardeen Khan’s party, the two wives had an ugly spat and haven’t spoken since then.
Things started to turn sour for the actor when Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Khan announced their separation. People started to assume and print that Arjun Rampal was the reason for the star couple’s separation. When asked to Arjun about this, he clarified by saying that it came as a shock to him just like it did to everyone else. He said that the rumors don’t affect him much but he felt hurt that people just assumed that just because he & Sussanne are really good friends, he might be the reason for the breakup of Hrithik & Sussanne.
Meanwhile, Sussanne was not happy with the bitter & false rumors of her affair with Arjun. She clarified her part in a statement, which mentioned that Arjun and Mehr have been their friends for years. Spreading & assuming such foolish rumors might poison a very beautiful relationship they share. She especially mentioned that she doesn’t want rumors to spoil her relationship with Mehr. Finally, she cleared everything out by stating,‘There is no truth to the claim that Arjun and I are anything more than friends.”
But rumors of Arjun & Mehr breaking up didn’t die after Sussanne went public with her side. Mehr tried everything to save her marriage but nothing seemed to have worked out for the two. In 2016, during an argument, Arjun walked out of the house and started living separately. The witness of their fights is their neighbor to whom Mehr had to apologize after Arjun walked out of the house.
The couple finally decided to not drag the marriage for long and agreed to separate mutually! The two decided to live their two individual lives while being parents to their two daughters Mahikaa & Myra.
In a lengthy statement, the couple announced to the world that the love they thought they had has faded away.
“After a 20-year-long beautiful journey filled with love and beautiful memories, we would like to share, that all journeys have different paths. We feel that it is time for us to move on to different destinations henceforth. We have always been solid when it has come to us, we will continue to be solid for each other and our loved ones, as we embark upon a new journey…Both of us being extremely private people feel strange to be making this statement, but such are the circumstances of our lives. Where the truth can get distorted and lost. We are a family, our love for each other is forever intact and we shall always be there for one another and most importantly, for our children Mahikaa and Myra. We would, therefore, appreciate our privacy through this time. Thank all for their support. Relationships can end, but love lives on. We won’t be commenting on this any further.”
The couple filed for divorce on 30th April 2019 and after a year of the two announcing their separation and six months after filing a divorce, the court has granted them the divorce. Their marriage was interfaith marriage; it was registered under the Special Marriage Act. Under this act, if the couple has to approach the court for mutual separation, they have to live separately for a year. Their daughter Mahikaa & Myra will be living with their mom Mehr Jessia in Bandra.
Even though the couple wasn’t divorced, Arjun Rampal had already moved on from his previous relationship. He started to date the South African model Gabriella Demetriades. The couple went public with their relationship as they were spotted at various places together and posted pictures of each other on social media. The couples have recently welcomed their first child (boy) Arik on July 18, 2019.
On asking about how did Arjun meet Gabriella, Arjun explains that the duo met through common friends at the Indian Premier League afterparty in 2009. The duo reconnected and began dating a few years ago. Gabriella was his side when Arjun’s mother Gwen Rampal passed away. He also explained that he worried about how his daughters would react to this. But luckily both the daughters have accepted Gabriella as a part of the family.
When media tried to contact Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jessia to record their statement on the decision of them getting a divorce, Arjun replied with “Why do I want to talk about it? Why is it anyone’s business? I don’t want to talk about it.”
Arjun Rampal was last seen in J.P Dutta’s period war action film ‘Paltan’. It was on Cho La clashes along the Sikkim border. He will be in Shailesh Varma’s ‘Nastik’ along with Meera Chopra & Harshaali Malhotra.
