Farmers: In a significant move aimed at transforming the agricultural sector, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), based in New Delhi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amazon Kisan. This strategic partnership brings together the expertise of both organizations to guide farmers in adopting scientific cultivation practices that optimize crop yield and increase income.
Recognizing the immense potential of technology to revolutionize agriculture and improve the livelihoods of Indian farmers, Harsh Goyal, Director and Head of Fresh and Everyday Essentials at Amazon India, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. Through Amazon’s extensive network, ICAR will provide technological support to farmers, paving the way for improved livelihoods and enhanced crop productivity. During the signing ceremony, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of DARE (Department of Agricultural Research and Education) and Director General of ICAR, shed light on the current state of Indian agriculture. He emphasized the significance of secondary agriculture in generating better remuneration for farmers. Dr. Pathak further highlighted the importance of critical agricultural inputs and season-based crop plans. He expressed his optimism about the success of this Public-Private-Peasants-Partnership (PPPP) and the collaborative efforts between ICAR and Amazon.

The aim is to bridge the knowledge gaps in integrated cultivation by leveraging ICAR’s vast network of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs). KVKs play a crucial role in empowering a wide range of farmers by providing them with technological support through the transfer of knowledge and capacity-building programs.
The partnership will also involve farmer engagement programs conducted at Krishi Vigyan Kendras, including demonstrations, trials, and capacity-building initiatives. These activities will focus on enhancing farming practices and improving farm profitability. Furthermore, Amazon will offer training support and assist farmers in marketing their products through its online platform, facilitating direct connections between farmers and consumers.
The MoU was signed by Dr. US Gautam, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), and Siddharth Tata, Product Leader at Amazon Fresh Supply Chain and Kisan, on behalf of ICAR.
